Baseball, Hotdogs, and a Plumbing Diversion

Summertime has arrived! And with it, the need to bask in as much SUMMER as possible.  As such, we've tried to eat lots of ice cream and talk/complain about how hot it is. Once we finally gave in and turned the A/C on in the condo (What? You're saying its not normal to be living in 86 degree rooms?) we ventured forth for other summertime delights. Namely, a good old fashioned Baseball game!
We sported the appropriate headwear and everything!
Friday night we took in a Bees game at Spring Mobile Stadium.  We feasted on hotdogs from our general admission seats (i.e. The grassy knoll by right field) and spied on the couples around us.  We agreed one couple was married, one was in the throes of serious dating, and one was definitely on a first date.  (First Date Guy didn't buy her a hotdog (-1), but they did share an ice cream (+1), so by our reckoning the date was sitting at a zero.  Not sure he's going to get a second go 'round with those numbers...) We also watched a little baseball and came up with our own guesses as to what all the acronyms stood for until we admitted we know little about baseball beyond the need for a hotdog to make it a bit more palatable.

Mr. C's humongo All-Star Dog was...Amazing.
Memorial Day we had a BBQ with some of the family at my parent's place.  We played croquet according to the best rules we could remember. My niece was about as tall as the croquet mallet which was HILARIOUS to watch.  We visited and ate the usual barbecue fare--hotdogs, hamburgers, chips, WATERMELON!, and the like.  The evening finished up with luscious homemade strawberry ice cream and oatmeal brownie bars.  Yes, the food was the key part of the event--as it should be for ALL great events!

If you're keeping track, that made for two hotdog meals in a week.  But we weren't finished yet!! Saturday afternoon/evening we attended a family reunion featuring--you guessed it--hamburgers and HOTDOGS. Food aside (for once!) it was fun to get together with family at our annual gathering.  We celebrated the life of my great grandmother--whom I never had the chance to meet--with games, lots of visiting, the traditional BINGO game, and birthday cake & ice cream. It was a grand affair and many thanks go to everyone who helped put it together.

3 hotdogs in 7 days.  Brilliant.

In other news--that I promise is unrelated--I managed to clog the disposal a few weeks back. (Potato peels do not go down the disposal. Lesson learned.)  It was a perfect example of why having a husband around is awesome to the max.  Mr. C jumped into action, took the pipes apart, drained the sink, unclogged the U-bend, and successfully put the whole thing back together in under 20 minutes.  I helped by watching and offering encouraging words like, "You okay?" and "Look at this weird bug I swept up under the sink!" A good wife does what she can.

Oh yeah, and one time in May we ran a 10K and passed bunches of people on the way--nobody passed us!--and finished in less than an hour and placed 6th (Mrs O'C) and 7th (Mr. C) in our divisions.  We're awesome like that.

Winners!
All in all, life isn't dull around the ol' homestead.  And there's much more summer-ing to look forward to!  Farmer's Markets, the zoo, some camping, and yes, maybe even a few more hotdogs.

  3. Maybe the First Date Girl was a vegetarian. If he had bought her a hot dog, that would have been a -10 in his favor.
